Tammy has been a healthcare professional for over 25 years. She has dedicated over 10 years of her career providing care to patients with heart conditions. Her father died at the age of 46 because of heart disease. She was a teenager at the time of her father's untimely death but understood how lifestyle choices can play a critical role in one's own health. Her passion for helping others runs deep because of her own lived experiences. One day she questioned as a healthcare provider if what she was doing correlated to people living a healthier, more fulfilled life.

I was reluctant to establish goals but preferred just diving into my counseling sessions without any clear directions. Tammy explained to me why writing down my goals was a requirement before she could begin working with me and how by writing down my goals would provide me further clarity as to what I wanted to achieve over the next 6-months. I loved when she said, "Would you drive to a place you have never been without directions?" She went on to say that is the same approach you should take about your life. ”

It has always been easy for me to get excited before speaking engagements no matter how many times I had to present before an audience. I have in the past tried prescription medications to control my nervousness but I didn't like how it made me feel afterwards. I went to see Tammy searching for other options to help me relax without medication therapy. She asked me if I had ever tried meditation before speaking. She taught me how to meditate which included breathing exercises and it has made all of the difference in the world. ”

One of my goals listed was to stop overeating. Tammy then replied, "Do you know why you are overeating? I said, "I have been battling with some mild depression for the last 6 months since losing my job." She then asked me, "Have you been having any thoughts of suicide?" I replied, "No, but I just don't seem to be getting better." She then explained to me that her service does not offer mental health counseling or treatment, but she could direct to mental health services in which I replied, "I am not crazy." I must say when I left her office that day I had a more positive outlook on why I should not be embarrassed to ask for help. "
